Martin and Margaretha Harders - 1888

This portrait of Martin and Margaretha (Kohnk) Harders and their daughter Clara was taken in 1888 by photographer J.R. Moeller of Grand Island. Martin Harders immigrated to Nebraska from Gudendorf, Holstein - Germany, in 1880 on the steamship, Westphalia. he settled on a farm in Harrison township, Hall County and raised a fmaily of 12 children.

District 74 class - 1948

This picture, taken in 1948-49, is the "little room" class from District No. 74, which is east of Grand Island and is now known as Seedling Mile Elementary School. The "little room" includes students in grades one through four, and the "big room" consisted of children in grades five through eight.
In the back row (from left) are Benny Hessel, Richard Robinson, Bernadine Laub, Carol Sue Baasch, Gary Beck, Billy Hight, Bonny Yost, Karen Boyd, and Gordon Elvers; in the front row are ROnald Laub, Rojean Robinson, Janice Elstermeier, Venice Brown, Deane Schweiger, Judy (last name unknown), Patty Woodward, Warren Stoppkotte, Barbara Blair, and Herby Mettenbrink. The teacher is Miss Marilyn Schacht.

Showing a property for sale - 1890s

Samuel C. Huston, with reins in his hands, is pictured with a client bundled up in downtown Grand Island during a snowy day in the 1890s. Huston always used small mules for his sleigh when showing his clients properties. After operating a confectionary shop, he began the home realty business - Dill & Huston Co. in 1889 with a partner.

Grand Opening of Wabel's Liquor - 1955

This team of Clydesdale horses - with a Dalmation dog and monkey sitting aboard the coach - are arriving for the 1955 grand opening of Wabel's Drive-in Liquor Store. The business was located next to the Conoco Motel & Restaurant on West Second Street. Charlie "Floyd" Wabel and Bill Langdon are standing at left, next to the Clydesdales. A Standard sign and part of a motel are seen in the background including (on the right), as is the entry onto the old viaduct leading west out of Grand Island.

Adolph Kroeger Family - 1920

This picture, taken around 1920, shows the Adolph Kroeger family, who lived in Hall County's Harrison township. pictured are Clara and Cecilia on top of the car; Emil, who is holding the camera; and (from left) Frieda, Alvira, Emma and Elsie, who are seated on the bridge. Lula is seated at right on the bridge railing.

Rauert Homestead - 1885

Nicolaus Rauert and his wife Augusta and daughter Bertha on their homestead northwest of Grand Island in Prairie Creek township where they settled in 1872. This was the first frame house in that local area.
